Purpose of the training
Train placement mentors to support student nurses during their learning.
Target audience
Experienced nurses with educational, interpersonal and organisational skills who can undergo training as a volunteer and whose application is approved by their workplace.
Training objectives
- Train the training supervisors, placement mentors and healthcare professionals to support student nurses
- Understand the issues caused by changes to nursing education
- Define: the role, its missions and the placement mentor's responsibilities
- Formalise good healthcare practice
- Analyse the processes within healthcare and map the pathways that lead to certain decisions
- Define the skills involved; teaching framework - Share knowledge of good practice (adult education):
- Identify clinical cases that are related to the activity in question
- Adapt the tools available to evaluate the skills of those being mentored at work
- Learn to supervise the work conducted by those being mentored: reflective analysis
- Evaluate the learning approach: methods and tools - Identify and analyse adapted learning situations and those that are specific to the service
- Learn to use reflective practice and practice analysis
- Organise concrete support for those who are trained and working in the field
Teaching methods
- Presentation
- Didactic presentation of nursing training by skill, legislation, the concept of mentoring and teaching tools
- Interactive analysis of the mentoring project
- Analysis of the practice: putting reflective analysis into use
Structure of the training
- 15 trainees per group
- 2 days + 1 day once a month
